HCAT Arlington collaborates with the Even Start program at Arlington Public Schools (APS) to offer nutrition and physical activity education to their students. Even Start is a free family literacy program for English language learners and HCAT offers monthly classes on rotating health and parenting topics, including both classroom lessons and a hands on activity in each session. Past topics have included outdoor winter play with a winter-themed scavenger hunt, muscle and bone strengthening exercise session featuring student-developed outdoor sidewalk chalk obstacle courses, and lessons on healthy snacks and cooking with kids in the kitchen with hands-on knife skills demonstrations and recipe making.
HCAT Arlington has also offered similar programming to Aspire! Afterschool Learning, AHC, Inc after school programs, Virginia Cooperative Extension classes, and Friends of Urban Agriculture education sessions. HCAT Arlington also offers educational nutrition and child wellness lessons and classes to the community.
